Holy Teacher Ji-Gong Living Buddha's merciful teaching
May 30, 1998
Temporary Temple (Kim Mui Hocy Kunn), Society Soction
Singapore Tao Society, Fa-Yi Chong-De
You all seem quite busy---what have you been so occupied with? (Ruming around for propogating
Tao and striving for Tao be be pussod dows ir into the future. Everyome is
doing their part.) You've been here in the Tao seminar for nearly a whole day now, haven't
you? Then, how do you feel? Have you gained any new insights into life? Are you
able to understand the principles explained by the lecturers? (Yes) Are you happy to be here? (Yes) Have you gained something from
being here? (Yes.)
Do
you feel your time was wasted? (No ) Have you lost a lot of money by being here? (No.)
Don't allow yourself to falter midway! You must persist in your effort
from start to finish--only then can you succeed in cultivating Tao. If you give
up halfway, will you ever achieve success? (No) Do you have confidence in yourself? (Yes) The most basic thing is to
complete this seminar. If you can't even finish this two-day seminar, how will
you ever travel the long path of cultivation with perseverance from start to
the very end? Isn't that true? (Yes.)
Was it easy for you to come here today? How long did your introducer and guarantor
search for you? Didn't they invite you again and again before you agreed to come?
Since you're physically here, why not put your heart at ease and truly listen
to the teachings? Can you do that? (Yes.)
Are you happy to see your Holy Teacher? (Yes) Why are you happy? (Because it's a rare. and precious opportunity.) But you can't even see the
Teacher--so how are you so happy? (We can feel it, mainly because we have this destined bond with Holy
Teacher. The love between Holy Teacher and disciple is like that between father
and child, which is predestined long ago. Therefore, as long as carry this heart,
this love, and can connect with the heart of the Teacher love of all the saints
and sages.) In fact, as Teacher, I am also very happy to see you here today---because
I have already waited for you for a very long time.
Everyone has their own unique karmic affinity. That you could attend this
seminar is also part of your blessings. To be able to participate in this Tao
seminar is truly a blessing -many people are not able to attend. Why can't they
attend? (Because they
have not received Tao.) Why haven't they received Tao? (Because they're lacking in their karmic affinity.) Therefore, you must understand
that your karmic affinity is very deep and precious. Since you now realize that
others lack this affinity, you should treasure your own. Affinity is hard to
gain but easy to lose. Only by cherishing the present can you have a beautiful
future. Isn't that so? (Yes.)
Life
only spans a few short decades, and no one knows what tomorrow will bring. If
you have this very minute to cultivate and propagate Tao, then you must cherish
it. Don't say, "I'll cultivate when I'm old." Can you be sure you'll
live to old age? (No)
Are you tired after listening to the Tao lectures? (No) Do you feel sleepy? (No.) Then
what do you want to do now? (Listen to Holy Teacher's compassionate words.) It is rare for Teacher to meet
with you. Isn't that true? (Yes.) Each time I come, I hope you will gain more understanding, deepen your
realization, comprehend more of the meaning of Tao, and understand the efforts
of the saints and sages, as well as the devotion and dedication of the Tao
seniors.
The fact that this seminar could be held today has stirred the three
realms--this was just said by the Immortal. If it can stir the three realms,
that shows it is a joint effort of heaven and humans, so how blessed you are to
be a part here. To be reborn as a human, and then to encounter the divine Tao,
is the result of the merits and virtues you have accumulated over many
lifetimes. Make good use of and fully express this karmic affinity. Is sixty
thousand years a long time? (Yes.) Now that you have this opportunity to awaken, should you cherish it? (Yes.)
To cultivate Tao, you must refine your heart, eliminate bad habits and
tempers, and return to your pure, innocent nature. Aside from that, you should
also help others to do the same. You must go forth to "save the world and
transform the masses".
You now understand that life is filled with suffering, and you don't want
your loved ones to remain drowning in the sea of suffering. So you must
"relieve suffering and bring joy".
While dealing with everything, we shouldn't think only of ourselves.
Shared joy is far better than solitary joy. Always consider others. On the
surface, it may seem like you are making sacrifices, but in reality, you are
gaining. Helping others is uplifting yourself. So you must "sacrifice
yourself for the sake of others".
Do not place yourself at the center of everything. Eliminate the ego. Step
into society and bring happiness to those around you. That is how you
"bring blessings to the world".
These points may sound simple, and in practice they are not too difficult.
It all depends on the heart with which you carry them out. Let all living
beings in this world "move toward the light". Let all souls in this
Saha World dwell in peace, safety, and harmony --in a lotus land of serenity,
unity and dreams come true. This is "the heartfelt vow and compassionate
wish" of your Holy Teacher, of all the saints and sages, and it's yours
too.
If your heart can constantly embrace the heartfelt vow and compassionate
wish, you are already a living bodhisattva in this world -for you are bringing
light and harmony for the people around you. In this spirit of compassionate
aspiration, Teacher, I, will gift you with the following words:
"May your compassion shine across the Three Realms,
Delivering all sentient beings and awakening their Buddha-nature;
With wisdom and mercy reaching everywhere,
May you enlighten the multitudes and fulfill your great vows."
What Teacher, I, ask for is your heartfelt dedication. Whether your heart
is sincere --Heaven knows. Whether you are truly invested---Heaven sees. After
all this effort, these Holy Revelations have been gifted to you. Have you
really contemplated them? Truly understood them? Only your own heart knows.
There is no need for your Teacher to say more.
As seminar members, your responsibility is to listen attentively and
deeply reflect upon the preciousness of Tao. Understand why we must cultivate
Tao. Seek the meaning of life itself. The temple helpers around you did not
bring you here just to look around or have a meal. They want you to experience
and grasp the true meaning behind the holy revelations in Tao seminar, to
understand what the saints and sages are trying to express.
The time during which the saints and sages borrow the medium's body to
descend and speak is fleeting -but the path ahead must be walked by you alone.
No one else can walk it for you. Only you can determine your path. So your
heart is the most important thing.
Heaven and hell lie in the space of a single thought. Whether you live
your days meaningfully or idly, time passes just the same. So why not live with
value and purpose? Whether you will be remembered with honor or disgrace for
generations to come--all depends on how you walk your path. The saints and
sages walked the same path you are on--often even more difficult. Yet they
achieved sainthood. Why? It was because of their heart.
Many people complain: "My life is hard. My path is full of obstacles.
My life journey is full of trials." But without hardship, how can there be
achievement? A successful entrepreneur often starts from nothing -and succeeds
through their own effort. Nothing will fall from the sky without effort. That
is absolutely impossible.
I hope my disciples will be even more devoted, more understanding -make
the most of this short life. Do not walk this path in vain. This cra of the
Tao's final salvation of the Three Realms is rare and even more difficult to
encounter. Bring forth your sincerity, your truthfulness, and walk this life
path well. Unleash your potential, your talents, and guide those around you
toward light and a grand path. Let this world attain unity and peace. This
mission depends on you. The saints and sages can only support you from the
sidelines.
Teacher, I, hope that you will seriously reflect when you return home.
Introspect and examine what you have done. Examine what you have done for those
around you and what you have done to benefit the world. We all live on this
Earth. We are all one family. We must care for one another, encourage each
other, and lead one another forward. Can we do this? (Yes.)
Time is limited. What Teacher had to say, has been said. It now depends on
whether you are willing to put it into action. I hope all of you will one day
accomplish great things -fulfill your responsibilities, have courage, persevere
to the very end, and never give up until you reach your destination. Finally, I
bless all my disciples: May your heart to propagate Tao never waver. May your
journey in cultivating Tao have a true beginning and a glorious end. Wishing
you smooth sailing ahead.
